Assessment and Treatment of Trauma (ATT) Course

Kaplan Fire & EMS Training, in partnership with Jones and Bartlett Learning and their medical publishing partner, the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS), offers a series of Assessment and Treatment of Trauma (ATT) online precourse modules that presents state-of-the-art prehospital trauma assessment and management.

The 12 precourse modules are designed to guide students through the core trauma concepts (mechanisms of trauma, burn trauma, mass-casualty incidents) and they ensure that students will have the prerequisite knowledge for the on-site portion of the program. The on-site part of the course is completed in 1-day and includes additional lectures, small-group discussions, live-action videos, scenario-based content, skills stations and a written examination led by an approved Course Coordinator.

Based on the most current medical information and best practices, this concise and highly interactive continuing education course covers the critical knowledge and skills necessary to rapidly evaluate, stabilize, and transport the trauma patient. A key feature of this course is its coverage of current controversies in trauma treatment and management, including controversies brought on by changing technology or very recent changes in treatment modalities.

The 12 specialized lessons in the precourse modules will take approximately two hours to complete. The courses are self-paced and students are not required to complete them in one session. However, the precourse modules must be completed prior to the on-site components. A student is required to achieve a score of at least 80% on the final examination for the precourse modules in order to move onto the on-site module. There are only two attempts allowed in order to pass the exam successfully.

Students receive a completion certificate once they have passed the precourse modules that they will be required to present to their Course Coordinator at the on-site session. With the precourse module certificate, acknowledgement upon successful completion of the on-site components and the written exam, students then receive a full ATT Course Completion Certificate. The certificate is valid for a period of four years. The recertification of ATT is accomplished with the completion of the online classes and the skills section with an approved instructor.
