Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) consists of breathing into a victim’s lungs and moving blood to the heart and brain by giving compressions. Automated external defibrillation (AED) is the use of an automated device to send a shock to the heart of a person in cardiac arrest. If a person is receiving CPR, he or she should also receive care that includes an AED.
The CPR and AED requirements in these courses have been developed in partnership with Jones and Bartlett Learning and their medical publishing partners, the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons (AAOS) and the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP). KCE’s online courses teach:
- Non-professionals and health care professionals how to operate automated external defibrillators and how to perform CPR.
- Various methods of rescue breathing.
- The value of early defibrillation coupled with early CPR in order to achieve the best outcome from cardiac arrest – survival
- The signs of choking and how to care for a choking victim.
Students can view the course online and practice with the appropriate device.
KCE offers several AED online courses. The first is customized for use with Medtronic AED devices, while the other is specific to Philips AED devices. There is also a general AED course option. The general AED course does not include a CPR component.
Unlike traditional AED management programs, KCE's online AED courses provide an alternative blended learning experience for those interested in renewing their AED certification. The online courses support the AED requirements and results necessary for certification renewal, in addition to offering the flexibility necessary for busy lifestyles.
