Module 1 – EMS Systems Roles & Responsibilities (1 CEU)
This module reviews the nature of the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) profession, attributes of the paramedic, and EMS in a historical perspective. National and local requirements for the paramedic are also discussed.
Module 2 – Well-Being of the Paramedic (1 CEU)
This module reviews the physical and emotional aspects of the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) profession with emphasis on awareness, prevention, and education. Stress management and dealing with death and dying are also discussed.
Module 3 – Illness and Injury Prevention (1 CEU)
This module offers a detailed and comprehensive review of injury prevention and community education. Topics include education, enforcement, injury prevention models, injury surveillance, data collection, and the role of the paramedic in injury prevention.
Module 4 – Medical and Legal Issues (1 CEU)
This module reviews ethical and legal considerations for the paramedic. Topics addressed include accountability, negligence, liability, confidentiality, consent, reasonable force, and resuscitative issues.
Module 5 – Ethics (0.5 CEU)
This module reviews the global concepts of ethics and applies them to the paramedic profession. Topics include patient autonomy, confidentiality, professional responsibilities, research, and common ethical dilemmas faced by the paramedic.
Module 6 – Pathophysiology (2 CEUs)
This module provides a review of human body systems and function as they relate to health and disease. Emphasis is placed on normal cellular function and what happens when alterations occur within the body.
Module 7 – Pharmacology (1 CEU)
This module provides a review of medication origins, types, and classifications, and how they enter and affect the body systems. Emphasis is placed on proper medication administration using patient rights as a foundation for patient safety. Medication regulatory and legal considerations are also addressed.
Module 8 – Vascular Access and Medication Administration (1 CEU)
This module reviews vascular access into the body and how medications enter the body and cause desired and undesired effects. Topics include common equipment used to introduce medications to the body, how medications will make changes to cellular function, and overall impact to systems of the body.
Module 9 – Human Development (1 CEU)
This module reviews human growth and development from infancy to late adulthood. Normal body system functions are discussed for each age group and progress through the various stages of the human lifespan.
Module 10 – Patient Communication (0.5 CEU)
This module discusses the principles of effective communication with emphasis on interviewing techniques used for various common and uncommon situations encountered by the paramedic in the prehospital environment.
Module 11 – Airway Management and Ventilation (1.5 CEU)
This module reviews anatomy, physiology, and functions of the human respiratory system. Emphasis is placed on normal function and considerations for the patient with airway or respiratory compromise. Techniques and equipment used to support and manage patient respiratory efforts are also addressed.
Module 12 – Patient History (0.5 CEU)
This module presents the essential components of a medical history and discusses techniques used by the paramedic to ensure a comprehensive patient history is obtained. Also addressed are common mnemonics to help the paramedic recall important questions to ask their patients.
Module 13 – Physical Examination (1.5 CEUs)
This module discusses techniques used by the paramedic to perform comprehensive physical examinations on patients. Emphasis is placed on body systems and vital signs as they relate to the physical examination.
Module 14 – Patient Assessment (1 CEU)
This module discusses techniques used by the paramedic to perform comprehensive patient assessments. Emphasis is placed scene safety, patient evaluation, and assessment of medical and trauma patients in the prehospital setting.
Module 15 – Critical Thinking and Clinical Decision-Making (0.5 CEU)
This module reviews important components of clinical judgments as they relate to the paramedic. Topics addressed include critical thinking skills, clinical considerations, stressful situations and clinical judgment, and putting all factors together to make proper clinical decisions.
Module 16 – Communication and Documentation (1 CEU)
This module discusses EMS communication systems and documentation as they relate to the paramedic. Communication topics include dispatch centers, radio equipment, medical direction, response data, and functions of each component. Documentation topics include legal and data collection considerations as they relate to prehospital patient care.
Module 17 – Trauma Systems and Mechanism of Injury (1 CEU)
This module discusses components of trauma systems as they relate to the paramedic. Topics include causes of trauma, trauma care resources, treatment and transport decision-making, prevention, and considerations for patients of trauma.
Module 18 – Bleeding and Shock (1 CEU)
This module reviews the cardiovascular system, components and function of blood, care considerations for the hemorrhaging patient, and types of shock as they relate to the human body.
Module 19 – Soft-Tissue Injury (0.5 CEU)
This module discusses soft-tissue injuries from an anatomy and physiology perspective and impact on the human body. Emphasis is placed on assessment and considerations for life-threatening injuries.
Module 20 – Burns (1 CEU)
This module addresses the ways in which burn injuries occur and how they affect the patient. Emphasis is placed on assessment with considerations for life-threatening conditions, treatment, and transport to appropriate patient care facility.
Module 21 – Head and Face Injuries (1 CEU)
This module reviews anatomy and physiology of the head and face and common injuries. Emphasis is placed on assessment, history taking, physical examination, treatment considerations, and potentially life-threatening injuries.
Module 22 – Spine Injuries (0.5 CEU)
This module reviews anatomy and physiology of the spinal cord and nervous system, and common injuries/ illnesses of the nervous system. Emphasis is placed on assessment, history taking, physical examination, treatment considerations, and potentially life-threatening injuries.
Module 23 – Thoracic Injuries (1 CEU)
This module reviews anatomy and physiology of organs in the thoracic cavity. Emphasis is placed on assessment, history taking, physical examination, treatment considerations, and potentially life-threatening injuries.
Module 24 – Abdominal Trauma (0.5 CEU)
This module reviews anatomy and physiology of organs in the abdominal cavity. Emphasis is placed on assessment, history taking, physical examination, treatment considerations, and potentially life-threatening injuries.
Module 25 – Musculoskeletal Injuries (1 CEU)
This module reviews anatomy and physiology of the muscular and skeletal systems. Emphasis is placed on assessment, history taking, physical examination, treatment considerations, and potentially life-threatening injuries.

This module reviews anatomy and physiology of the nervous system and common disorders with emphasis on assessment, history taking, physical examination, treatment considerations, and potentially life-threatening problems.
Module 29 – Endocrine Emergencies (0.5 CEU)
This module reviews anatomy and physiology of the endocrine system and common disorders with emphasis on assessment, history taking, physical examination, treatment considerations, and potentially life-threatening problems.
Module 30 – Allergies and Anaphylaxis (0.5 CEU)
This module reviews anatomy and physiology of the immune system and common disorders that cause allergic reactions. Emphasis is placed on assessment, history taking, physical examination, treatment considerations, and potentially life-threatening problems.
Module 31 – Gastrointestinal Emergencies (1 CEU)
This module reviews anatomy and physiology of the gastrointestinal system and common disorders with emphasis on assessment, history taking, physical examination, treatment considerations, and potentially life-threatening problems.
Module 32 – Renal and Urological Emergencies (1 CEU)
This module reviews anatomy and physiology of the urinary system and common disorders with emphasis on assessment, history taking, physical examination, treatment considerations, and potentially life-threatening problems.
Module 33 – Toxicology: Substance Abuse and Poisoning (1.5 CEUs)
This module reviews common substances that cause potentially life-threatening problems when introduced into the human body by various routes. A review of anatomy and physiology is used to illustrate how toxins affect body systems. Emphasis is placed on assessment, history taking, physical examination, treatment considerations, and potentially life-threatening problems.
Module 34 – Hematologic Emergencies (0.5 CEU)
This module reviews the anatomy and physiology of components in blood and the vascular system. Emphasis is placed on function of blood components and causes of common problems encountered by patients with hematologic disorders. Also discussed is the importance of patient assessment, history taking, and potential life -threatening disorders.
Module 35 – Environmental Emergencies (1 CEU)
This module discusses how temperature extremes, high altitude, and water submersion affect patients. Emphasis is placed on assessment, history taking, physical examination, treatment considerations, and potentially life-threatening problems.
Module 36– Infectious and Communicable Diseases (1.5 CEUs)
This module discusses common infectious diseases of concern to the community and prehospital care providers. Types and routes of transmission, treatment considerations, health care implications, and public health care agencies are also discussed.
Module 37 – Behavioral Emergencies (1 CEU)
This module reviews common psychological and behavioral disorders with implications for the patient in the prehospital care environment. Emphasis is placed on assessment, history taking, physical examination, treatment considerations, and potentially life-threatening problems.
Module 38 – Gynecologic Emergencies (1 CEU)
This module reviews anatomy and physiology of the female reproductive system and common gynecologic disorders. Emphasis is placed on assessment, history taking, physical examination, treatment considerations, and potentially life-threatening problems.
Module 39 – Obstetrics (1.5 CEUs)
This module reviews anatomy and physiology of the female reproductive system as it relates to pregnancy. Topics include fetal development and common problems encountered during various stages of pregnancy. Emphasis is placed on assessment, history taking, physical examination, treatment considerations, and potentially life-threatening problems.
Module 40 –Neonatology (1 CEU)
This module discusses care and assessment of the newborn. Common disorders and problems are discussed with emphasis on assessment, history taking, physical examination, treatment considerations, and potentially life-threatening problems.
Module 41 – Pediatrics (3 CEUs)
This module discusses the pediatric patient with emphasis on differences between adults and children. Common disorders and emergencies are discussed with emphasis on assessment, history taking, physical examination, treatment considerations, and potentially life-threatening problems.
Module 42 – Geriatrics (1 CEU)
This module discusses the geriatric patient with emphasis on differences between the elderly compared to other age groups. Common disorders and emergencies are discussed with emphasis on assessment, history taking, physical examination, treatment considerations, and potentially life-threatening problems.
Module 43 – Abuse, Neglect, and Assault (0.5 CEU)
This module discusses the characteristics and signs of abuse. Child and elder abuse, domestic violence, and legal implications for the paramedic are also addressed. Special emphasis is placed on assessment, history taking, physical examination, treatment considerations, legal considerations, and potentially life-threatening problems.
Module 44– Patients with Special Needs (0.5 CEU)
This module discusses the patient with physical and mental limitations or challenges. Common mental and physical disorders are discussed with emphasis on assessment skills and considerations, history taking, physical examination, treatment considerations, and potentially life-threatening problems.
Module 45 – Acute Interventions for Chronic Care Patients (1CEU)
This module discusses patients with chronic conditions that require special care and considerations. Topics include pain management, chemotherapy, and home-health care considerations. Emphasis is placed on assessment, history taking, physical examination, treatment considerations, and potentially life-threatening problems.
Module 46 – Ambulance Operations (0.5 CEU)
This module reviews the history of Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and how progression has led to the design of components used with today’s ambulance and patient transport vehicles, and transport considerations. Fixed-wing and rotary-wing transport is also discussed.
Module 47 – Medical Incident Command (1 CEU)
This module discusses natural disasters, mass-casualty incidents, and implications for public safety. Components of incident command systems are addressed with emphasis on consideration for patient location, categorization, assessment, treatment, and transport.
Module 48 – Terrorism and Weapons of Mass Destruction (1 CEU)
This module discusses the history of terrorism and the impact on our communities. Chemical, biological, radiologic, and explosive materials are addressed with consideration for injury and illness to patients and how they are assessed, treated and transported.
Module 49 – Rescue Awareness and Operations
This module discusses rescue awareness and considerations for the rescuer accessing and treating patients in confined space, entrapment, and limited access situations. Emphasis is placed on rescuer safety, patient access, assessment, treatment, and special equipment used to transport patients.
Module 50 – Hazardous Materials Incidents (1 CEU)
This module discusses hazardous materials, laws and regulations, and protective equipment used to protect responders. Topics include identification, decontamination, and routes of exposure. Emphasis is placed on responder safety and response preparation.
Module 51 – Crime Scene Awareness (1 CEU)
This module discusses awareness of the crime scene, evidence preservation, and responder safety as they relate to scene access, clues to identifying potential crime scenes, hostage situations, and various other dangerous conditions encountered by public safety responders.
